The second half has belonged to Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team for much of the season.

Once again, a strong second half propelled the Statesmen to another win in their 76-71 victory over visiting Lewis & Clark Community College Wednesday.

Lincoln Trail fell behind 35-32 at halftime, but the Statesmen exploded for 44 points, while limiting the Trailblazers to 36, on their way to the come-from-behind win.

The Statesmen made two less field goals (26) than Lewis & Clark (28) for the game, but made five three-pointers to just two for the Trailblazers. Lincoln Trail also was 19-33 at the free throw line (58 percent), while Lewis & Clark made just 13-25 foul shots (52 percent).

Nine players found the scoring column for the Statesmen, two of which were in double figures.

Nick Painter paced LTC with 24 points, including a pair of three-pointers. The freshman from Flora scored 14 of his game-high total in the second half, which included a 5-6 effort at the free throw line.

Caleb Begle was also in double figures with 14 points, all of which came after halftime, including a trio of three-pointers. Jesse Tesmer netted eight points, Dennis Hightower and Jake Newton tossed in seven apiece, Darryl Walker and Ron Dietz each scored five points and Lawrence Smith added four.

Three players reached double figures for Lewis & Clark, with Malik Wineglass leading the way with 15 points. Princeton Steward and Sam Taylor added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

With the win, the Statesmen have won two games in a row overall and currently boast a 4-1 record at home.

Lincoln Trail (6-4) will not play again until next weekend, when they play host to Danville Area College Saturday, Dec. 15, at 3:30 p.m.
