OGS, NMS girls basketball teams each lose pair of games Tuesday

It was a rough night on the court for Crawford County's junior high girls basketball teams, as they ended up on the losing end of all four contests Tuesday.

Nuttall Middle School dropped a pair of games at Paris Mayo, losing the eighth grade game, 22-18, while falling in the seventh grade contest, 33-11.

In the eighth grade game, Robinson held a 9-7 lead after one quarter, but was outscored 8-2 in the second quarter and trailed 15-11 at halftime. Robinson was then outscored 4-2 in the third quarter for a 19-13 deficit, but outscored Paris Mayo 5-3 in the fourth quarter, only to fall a few points short.

Alexis Sullivan paced NMS (2-6) with eight points, three rebounds and three steals, while Kirbie Mendenhall posted six points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist. Anna Jones netted two pointsm six rebounds and two steals and Josie Goff added two points, one rebound, one assist and one steal for NMS.

In the seventh grade game, Laini Wright topped NMS (0-8) with five points, while Alexis Middleton tossed in two points and Tyra Kinney scored one.

At Oblong, OGS was swept by visiting Marshall, dropping the eighth grade game, 42-4 and the seventh grade game, 35-18.

In the eighth grade game, Oblong fell behind 14-0 after one quarter and never recovered. Oblong trailed 22-2 at halftime, then were outscored 12-0 in the third for a 34-2 deficit. Marshall then won the fourth quarter, 8-2, to reach the final margin.

Logan Draves topped OGS (1-1) with two points and four rebounds, while Abby Dart tossed in two points.

In the seventh grade game, Oblong was down by just one, 4-3, after the first quarter, but Marshall outscored OGS 9-4 in the second quarter to take a 13-7 lead at halftime. Marshall then outscored OGS 10-6 in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 23-13, then won the fourth quarter, 12-5, to pull away for the win.

Summer Johnson led OGS (1-1) with six points and three rebounds, while Nyah Laino posted three points and two rebounds. Samantha Johnson netted three points and one rebound, Camryn Travis tossed in three points, Belle Kemp added two points and one rebound and Dart had one point and 10 rebounds.

Robinson will play host to Martinsville Monday at 6 p.m., while Oblong will play host to Lawrenceville Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
