Oblong board repeals hotel tax, OKs 4-way stop use
Oblong Village Board repeals hotel/motel tax and approves use of the 4-way stop and community building.

Following a request by Lisa Pinkston to abate the hotel/motel tax for her new retreat center, Trustee Rick Catt made a motion to repeal the hotel/motel tax.

September was hotter, wetter than normal
It was a little wetter but a lot hotter in September than a year earlier.

According to figures supplied by Official Crawford County Weather Observer Ron Brock, the average daytime high in September was about 83.4 degrees, up from more than 76.13 degrees during September 2014.

Wine and Art Festival has 15 wineries
Thirteen is the lucky number for oenophiles and art lovers in Palestine this weekend.

Main Street is the site of the 13th annual Wabash Valley Wine and Art Festival 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. More than 100 wines from 15 area wineries will be available for tasting.

RHS '63 class to honor Vietnam hero Sunday
The Robinson High School class of 1963 will honor a classmate who died serving his country in Vietnam.

At 2 p.m. Sunday the Robinson High School class of 1963 will present Crawford County Post 4549 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars a memorial honoring 1LT William D. Cody for permanent display in the Military Museum. The event will be hosted by Post 4549 in its auditorium at the corner of East Main and North Jackson in Robinson.

Drawing for local trapping permits is Friday
Sam Parr State Fish and Wildlife Area and Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area will be opened for trapping beginning Nov. 10.

Permits for trapping at the sites will be allocated in a drawing at the Sam Parr SFWA Office at 7 p.m. Friday.

Gas trend still down, but local pumps lagging
Crawford County pump prices are dropping, but not as much - yet - as in other areas around the state.

Average retail gasoline prices in Illinois fell 2.6 cents per gallon last week, averaging $2.45 a gallon, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 4,378 gas outlets in Illinois.

Hutsonville board OKs budget, tries to anticipate state payments
The Hutsonville Unit 1 school board Monday night approved the budget for the 2016 fiscal year.

Superintendent Julie Kraemer said provided all revenue that is due the district from the state comes in during the fiscal year, the budget is about $168,526 in the red for this fiscal year.

New sentence in DUI fatality case 2 years shorter
A Robinson man has again been sentenced in a fatal 2007 DUI case.

Jerod W. Robinson, 29, has been sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by two years mandatory supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $13,249.13 restitution and a $500 fine plus costs.
