Illinois Eastern Community College trustees have taken the next step in Lincoln Trail College's ongoing "Theater Renaissance" project.
The IECC board, meeting Tuesday at Frontier Community College in Fairfield, approved a contract with Walk Architecture, Effingham, for architectural services for the planned LTC performing arts addition.
As explained earlier this year by LTC President Ryan Gower, the Zwermann Arts Center Theater has no storage space for props, instruments, costumes or sets. Nor is there any place to build sets other than outside or on the stage itself.
plans call for construction of a 4,000-square-foot production center that will be connected to the south side of the theater. It will offer storage as well as room for set construction.
The contract was only one LTC-related items addressed by the board. Trustees also hired Shawn Hall as temporary head coach for the college's new soccer team, effective Aug. 1.
Also, an existing athletic training services agreement was extended with Crawford Memorial Hospital for athletic training services to LTC.
In other LTC personnel matters, Tona Ambrose was employed as temporary director of college access and Laurie Jenkins was re-assigned from health programs instructor to nursing instructor. Trustees also accepted the resignation of bookstore assistant Brittany Stone.
Affiliation agreements between the district and area health care facilities, including CMH and Harsha Behavioral Center in Terre Haute were approved, as was an agreement with Castle Branch Bridges for nursing students to be placed in selected clinical agencies in Indiana.
The board approved an articulation agreement between Illinois Eastern Community Colleges and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in the area of social work.
Board members John Brooks and Jan Ridgely were appointed to the board's audit committee. The committee is charged with oversight of IECC's annual audit.
Updates to the 2019-20 IECC catalog were reviewed and approved and a policy was revised to ensure the district is meeting obligations to students in the areas of admissions, marketing and recruitment efforts.
The next regular board meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at LTC.
