The Crawford County Health Department is offering pneumonia vaccinations and home colorectal cancer screening kits.
Special clinics are scheduled at the department for 8 to 11 a.m. Monday and March 25. No appointments are needed.
The pneumonia vaccine is recommended for individuals 65 and older who have not had a pneumonia shot within the last year. It is now recommended that two pneumonia doses be given one year apart. Most insurances are accepted.
Persons age 50 to 65 years old with underlying health conditions should consult their healthcare provider for recommendation and confirm pneumonia vaccination coverage with insurance provider prior to receiving this vaccination.
Also, in observance of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, free colorectal cancer screening kits will be provided during the clinics through the support of the Mary Heath Foundation.
Free take-home fecal immunochemical tests are available for individuals 50 years and older who have not had a colonoscopy within the last 10 years.
FIT is not meant to take the place of a colonoscopy, but is an option for people looking for a comfortable way to screen for colon cancer.
FIT screening is a yearly test; it requires no bowel preparation and is completed in the privacy of a person's own home.
