Oblong may change mobile-home rules
Spring may feel far away, but the Village of Oblong is getting ready for spring cleanup.

During Wednesday's village board meeting, the Ad Hoc committee on dilapidated and unsafe buildings presented possible changes to Oblong's mobile and modular home ordinance.

The ordinance would be updated to cover all "manufactured" homes and would permit some older homes to be moved into the village limits.

The ordinance now allows only home 10 years old or newer to be set up in Oblong. The amended ordinance would allow older homes in provided they pass inspection.

The committee also has been sending letters to owners dilapidated properties asking them to clean up and make repairs. The village may offer reimbursement to those who need to rent dumpsters.

In a related matter, Lucas Inboden was named as a new member of the committee.

Also Wednesday, the village water ordinance was amended to reflect an increase in the rate paid by customers outside the village limits.

The minimum in-town rate is $22 per 1,000 gallons, while the new minimum out-of-town rate is $28.20. Every additional 1,000 gallons adds $7 to the bill, regardless of where the customer lives.

Fund-raising efforts for a proposed dog park in Oblong continue, the board learned.

So far, $6,670 of the $7,940 needed to fence in the park has been raised. Letters soliciting donations are being sent out. Plans call for the park, near the bridge at Oblong Village Park, to be dedicated this summer.

The village board also discussed requiring food vendors to get permits to participate in events such as Fall Follies. No decision was made, however.

The board turned down the latest request for a liquor license by Casey's General Store.
