Veterans Day observances scheduled in county
On Sunday, a century will have passed since the war to end all wars ended. Various organizations around the area will honor local veterans in observance of Veterans Day and this anniversary.

Palestine High School will again honor local veterans with a Veterans Day Program Friday.

The annual program is 2 p.m. in the PHS gymnasium. All veterans and their families are asked to attend so they can be honored and thanked for their service. Those planning to attend should RSVP by calling the school at 586-2711.

Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong and the Oblong American Legion will conduct their 20th Annual Veterans Day Observance at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The Legion will post colors and there will be a short service and reading of the names on the crosses. Attendees should bring chairs.

Each year the funeral home and the American Legion Post honor those local Veterans who have died during the past year. This year, more than 350 veterans will be honored. Either these veterans had their funeral service with the funeral home along with the Legion or families of the deceased veterans purchased a cross to honor their deceased veteran.

Each veteran has a cross with his or her name on it with an American flag next to the cross. The crosses will be erected Thursday and will be illuminated at night.

Pulliam Funeral Home and the Oblong Community Service Club will hold a Veterans Day Soup Supper for the public at the Oblong Municipal Building from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday with no charge for the veterans and their spouses. A free will donation will be accepted from others.

Robinson American Legion will host a Veterans Day commemorative service at 11 a.m. Monday.
