Palestine board sells truck, property
By TOM OSBORNE
Daily News

The Palestine Village Board of Trustees made short work of their agenda Thursday, accepting a bid on a truck and agreeing to sell some property.

The trustees opened three sealed bids for a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. There was no reserve on the bids and the winning bid totaled $775.

The trustees also approved a resolution to sell property at 307 W. Market St. for a total of no less than $4,000.

In other business, the trustees approved the placement of two additional handicapped parking signs in front of the Presbyterian Church. The signs will only be in effect on Sunday mornings and other church functions.

The board also passed the annual appropriations and prevailing wage ordinances.

Residents are reminded that now that spring has finally arrived, the Palestine Police Department will be stepping up enforcement of tall grass and other ordinances.

In Palestine, grass is not allowed to exceed eight inches in height. Those found in violation will receive a warning letter giving the resident a period of time to mow the grass before receiving an ordinance citation.

Residents are also reminded that blowing grass clippings into the street is an ordinance violation. Those found in violation will be left a form letter giving them three days to correct the problem. Failure to comply will result in an ordinance citation being issued with a mandatory court date, according to information posted on the village website by Police Chief Jeff Besing.
