The Oblong Unit 4 Board of Education Monday night approved a tentative tax levy and approved a field trip request.
The tentative tax levy approved is based on an Equalized Assessed Valuation of $53 million. A hearing date was set for Dec. 18 at 6:45 p.m.
The EAV of property is the product of the assessed value of the property (both land and improvements) and the State Equalization Factor, which is set by the Illinois Department of Revenue. It is part of an approach to taxation and property assessment which is supposed to ensure fairness to the taxpayers throughout the state.
The tentative tax levy will be on display for public review at the unit office for 30 days.
In personnel matters, the board approved the substitute employee lists for the 2017-18 school year.
Also, the board approved Jeron Harris as volunteer assistant high-school boys' basketball coach. The board also approved Ryan Cheek as head high-school baseball coach.
In other business, the board approved a request from the FFA to attend the National Farm Machinery Show on Feb. 15, 2018 in Louisville, Ky.
The next regular meeting of the Unit 4 Board of Education will be Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Oblong Elementary Oblong Room.
