Holiday season gets underway this weekend

Robinson is bringing back the Christmas magic with a lighting celebration, a parade, ice skating and more this weekend.

Events sponsered by the Community Revitalization and Beautification Committee are planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Activities get underway with a themed basket silent auction from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the Heath Museum and Candy Store. It is sponsored by the Robinson Chamber of Commerce.

A street fair on the square, with booths offering seasonal foods, drinks and games, is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Retail merchants, meanwhile, will have holiday open houses.

An ice skating rink will be set up for those eager to cut figure eights during that same time. Also from 5 to 8 p.m., youngsters can enjoy "Santa Land."

Santa himself will arrive at 6:30 p.m. for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn.

The holiday fun continues Saturday with Breakfast with Santa at the Robinson Masonic Lodge from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

The Robinson Band Booster 5K Jingle Bell Fun Run begins at 10 a.m.

The annual Festival of Lights Parade makes its way to Kringle Korner beginning at 6 p.m.

More retail open houses are also planned and the ice rink will again be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Robinson is not the only community getting into the Christmas spirit this weekend. The Palestine Preservation Projects Society will host its annual Cookie Walk at the Fife Opera House beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Other local annual holiday events are also on the way.

The Leaverton Park Christmas Lighting Festival is Friday, Nov. 24. it will feature music, fireworks, an appareance by Santa and more.

Hutsonville will host their annual Christmas on the River lighting ceremony Saturday, Nov. 25. Activities get underway at the firehouse starting at 4:30 p.m. with lighting of tree and arrival of Santa at 7 p.m.

Lincoln Trail College will open its doors for its annual Santa Day from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Saturday, Dec. 2. The event includes free seasonal games, activities and craft projects. Santa Claus will be there to meet with children in the LTC Library.

St. Nick will ride the rails for the 28th year aboard the Indiana Rail Road Company Santa Train Sunday, Dec. 3. The train will stop on Adams Street in Oblong from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and the railyards in Palestine from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
