The Oblong Unit 4 Board of Education made some personnel moves and approved class trips during their meeting Monday.
The board hired Michelle Meese as the grade-school principal for the 2018-19 school year. Meese has worked in the English/language arts department at the junior high school and has recently been the assistant principal at Oblong Elementary.
"We have been preparing for a few years for Mr. Parker's eventual retirement," Oblong Superintendent Jeff Patchett said. "Michelle has been with us for a number of years and has exceeded our expectations. We feel very fortunate to have her."
The board also hired Audrey Manuel as kindergarten aide.
In other business, the board approved a resolution approving the multi-hazard mitigation plan in conjunction with FEMA and the Crawford County Emergency Management Agency. Patchett said this is a county-wide initiative.
"Hopefully this will be the sort of thing that will sit on the shelf and never need to be used," Patchett said. "We're just trying to get everyone on the same page so we can work together in case anything does happen."
The board also approved:
The fifth grade field trip to Springfield on Nov. 4.
Ag & CEO Class field trip to the Toyota Plant in Princeton and Berry Plastics in Evansville on Dec. 6.
The next regular school board meeting will be Monday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Oblong Elementary Oblong Room.
