Hutsonville's Riverfest set to kick off Friday
A celebration on the Wabash River is in store at Hutsonville's annual Riverfest Friday and Saturday.

Activities get underway at 6 p.m. Friday with a car and motorcycle show downtown. Registration opens at 5 p.m. For more information, call 562-6244.

Also at 6 p.m., disc jockey Vice Laino will host a street dance. There will also be live music by Moody and the In-Laws. There will be a fireworks show at dusk.

Saturday begins with a 6 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Hutsonville fire station. A 5K fun run follows at 8 a.m.

A parade from downtown to Hutsonville Park starts at 11 a.m.

Activities at the park include youth pageants from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the Junior Miss and Miss Riverfest pageants at 2 p.m.

The youth pageants are open to participants ages birth through 9, while the Junior Miss competition is for girls ages 10 to 13. Miss Riverfest is open to girls ages 14 to 18.

A pumpkin ball tournament is also planned.

Events wrap up with a family movie at the park at 8 p.m.

There will be food and other vendors set up in town and at the park both days. Riverfest is sponsored by the Hutsonville Township Fire Department.

Other activities are planned around the county this weekend.

The Eastern Illinois Sportsmen's Club will host a hunter education course Friday and Saturday.

Friday's event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at club headquarters in Porterville and Satuday's will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Trail College.

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must attend both sessions and pass the written test to receive certification. There is no pre-registration or cost for the class.

Oblong will host "Flea Markets On Main" Saturday. Participants should bring their goods to Main Street and pick a spot on the sidewalk from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Setup may begin at 7 a.m. and sellers must have all items off the sidewalks by 2 p.m.
