It's time once again to sign students up for another school year.
Crawford County's four school districts have started, or are about to start, registration for the 2017-18 school year, with two district offering online registration only. Details follow.
Hutsonville Unit 1
Unit 1 registration will be available online only this year for the first time.
Registration for the semester will be available Tuesday and Wednesday. During those days, new students can register at the school from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Those who do not have a computer to register can do so at the school from 2 to 6 p.m.
Book rental at Hutsonville Elementary School is $80. There is also a $30 technology fee and a $40 activity fee.
At Hutsonville High School, registration costs $95. The tech fee is $55 and the activity fee is $50. There is a $60 price tag on taking a dual credit course with Lincoln Trail College.
Drivers' education costs $50 and a parking permit is $10. A replacement permit is $15.
Optional Chromebook insurance is $31 for all students.
Breakfast is $1.50 for all students and $2 for adults. Lunch is $2.25 for students and $2.75 for adults. Extra milk is 50 cents.
After registering, parents will be able to print out a sheet to return to the schools with their payment. Unit 1 is not yet set up to process debit or credit payments online. Those whose payments are postmarked by Aug. 4 will get a 10 percent discount.
Robinson Unit 2
Unit 2 parents can register children online beginning Tuesday.
Online registration runs through Sunday, Aug. 13. Parents who do not have access to a computer can call the schools to set up an appointment for computer usage.
To register, parents or guardians must first go to www.robinsonschools.com and log into "Skyward Family Access." They will need their children's student ID numbers. These are found under "Student Info" on the left hand side of the screen, three lines down from the student's photograph.
Parents can pay fees online using the website's link to RevTrak on the last step of registration or by taking payments to the schools or to the Unit 2 central office on North Allen.
The Unit 2 site also includes information areas for each school - Washington and Lincoln elementary, Nuttall Middle School and Robinson High School. These will include student handbooks, school supply lists, and much more. All can be downloaded and printed.
Parents of students new to Unit 2 schools are asked to call the schools for an appointment before coming in. WES houses grade pre-K to second and can be reached at 544-2233. Students in third through fifth grade attend LES. The number there is 544-3315. The NMS number is 544-8618 and the number at RHS is 544-9510. To contact the special services director, call 544-5837.
Cafeteria prices have not changed from last year. Breakfast is $2 for elementary students, $2.10 for middle and high-school students and $2.95 for adults. Lunch is $2.85 for elementary students, $3.10 for NMS and RHS and $3.85 for adults. Milk is 30 cents.
At WES and LES, the book fee is $60 and the activity fee is $5. At NMS, the book fee is $70, the sports fee is $40 per sport, band participation is $10 Scholastic Bowl participation is $40 and the activity fee is $10.
At RHS, the book fee is $80, sports fee is $50 per sport, band participation fee is $20, Scholastic Bowl participation fee is $50 and the activity fee is $10. Driver education costs $100 and a parking permit is $20. Chromebook insurance is $19.
Parents of students who have yet to pre-register need to contact their respective schools as soon as possible. It is especially important to notify WES of incoming kindergartners who have not been pre-registered.
For transportation for new students, address changes, daycare arrangements or general questions about bus service, parents should call Angela Langley at 544-8715, before Aug. 18. Bus routes, bus numbers and bus drivers change from year to year.
Palestine Unit 3
Unit 3 registration will be noon to 6:30 p.m. at both Palestine Grade School and Palestine High School. Pre-registration paperwork can be taken care of in advance at www.palestinecusd3.net.
The basic price of registration is $50 for kindergartners, $65 for students in grades 1 through 8 and $70 for high school students. There is a $5 activity fee.
The grade school fee for participation in extra-curricular activities is $40, while the high school fee is $75. Beginning this year, the one-time fee covers all a student's extra curricular activities for the year.
Drivers' education costs $80. There is a $25 junior-high graduation fee and a $40 high-school graduation fee.
Grade school breakfast costs $1.50 and lunch there is $2.35. Lunch for high school students and adults is $3.
Oblong Unit 4
Online registration for Unit 4 is now open at www.oblongschools.net. In-person registration for both Oblong Elementary School and Oblong High School is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.
The registration fee for kindergarten through eighth grade is $60. At OHS, textbooks will cost $75. The driver's education fee is also $75. Athletic participation is $25 for both junior high and high school.
Student accident insurance is $23 for pre-K through eighth grade and $46 for high school students, with 24-hour coverage costing $125 for all students. Football insurance is $162.
Health records must be up-to-date or the student may not register. Physical exams are required of all students entering kindergarten - or first grade if they did not attend kindergarten the previous year - sixth grade, and ninth grade.
Dental examinations are required of all students entering kindergarten, second grade and sixth grade. Kindergarten students will also be required to have an eye exam. Any child, new to the district, must have proof of immunization and recent physical examination.
Kindergarten students who have not pre-registered are reminded to bring birth certificates. High school students will need their Social Security numbers. A child must be 5 by Sept. 1 to be eligible to enroll.
Students participating in inter-scholastic athletics are required to have a sports physical and economy student insurance coverage or file an insurance waiver with the school.
Student breakfast will cost $2 and lunch will be $3. Adult breakfast is $3 while lunch is $4. Extra milks are 30 cents.
