The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that beginning Monday, weather permitting, Illinois Route 33 will be closed to all through traffic to allow for the reconstruction of the bridge over Lamotte Creek south of Palestine.
Traffic will be detoured using Illinois Route 1 and U.S. Route 50. A marked detour will be clearly signed and posted along those roads to accommodate the through traffic.
The closure will remain in place until the bridge is completed and can be safely opened to traffic. The bridge is expected to be completed around Aug. 15, weather permitting. Local traffic will still be allowed access to each side of the bridge.
Sangamon Construction Co. from Springfield is the prime contractor and Jerry Martin is the Resident Engineer for the Department of Transportation. Questions concerning this project should be directed to Jerry Martin at the site office (618) 586-2002 or Tim Hemmen at the Effingham office at (217) 342-3951.
