A Lawrenceville man is in Crawford County Jail today after he crashed his car in flight from Crawford County deputies Tuesday night.
Jason Frederick, 32, fled after being pulled over for a traffic stop at Illinois Route 1 and County Road 350N, Crawford County Sheriff Todd Liston said.
The chase headed south into Lawrence County, with another deputy joining the pursuit, Chief Deputy Doug Slater said.
Frederick began to drive across a plowed field, Liston said, before crashing into a deep ditch between two fields about one and one-half miles east of Birds. He was arrested at 9:48 p.m.
Frederick suffered a head injury in the crash, Slater said, and was taken to Crawford Memorial Hospital for treatment.
He rammed at least one deputy's vehicle in the chase, Slater said. Of the two vehicles involved in the chase, one was damaged badly enough it could not be driven, he said.
Frederick was treated and released to the jail, where he awaits a bond hearing.
Deputies arrested him on four felony charges and eight misdemeanor charges. The felonies are two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of criminal damage to state supported property. The misdemeanors are fleeing police, driving with a suspended license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage, speeding, driving without a seat belt and littering.
Illinois State Police are investigating the accident at the department's request, Slater said.
