Since opening its doors in February, the Ark of the Covenant Soup Kitchen on North Jackson in Robinson has provided more than 1,500 warm, free meals.
"There's a need in the community," Monica Wright, co-director of the soup kitchen, said. "Many people don't think there is, but there really is."
While the general public may not be aware of the need, a large number of the county's organizations, businesses, churches and individuals have provided the funding and volunteer hours needed to keep the kitchen running.
"Our community has been such a blessing for our soup kitchen," Eula Higginbotham, co-director, said. "After we got up and running, and people saw the good we were doing, a lot of them came back and gave again."
The soup kitchen is open on the second and fourth Thursday every month at 209 N. Jackson from 3 to 6 p.m. The kitchen offers dine-in, carry-out and delivery options.
