State not paying its health-care bills

We have a crisis in the State of Illinois, and the people who are providing health care for our loved ones desperately need everyone's help.

What would it mean to you if your employer said, "I appreciate your hard work, but you aren't going to receive your paycheck this month because we do not have the money to pay you." What would it mean if your employer told you that same thing for the past six months?

Health care providers in the State of Illinois are being told exactly that. People in our state are getting quality care from nursing homes, pharmacies, hospitals, doctors, dentists, and ambulance services, but they are not being paid by the State of Illinois in a timely manner.

I work at the Newton Rest Haven nursing home. We have a wonderful community, and the support is tremendous here. But we, like many other health care providers, are having difficulty getting the State of Illinois to pay us what is owed to us for our services that have been rendered. We are taking care of your loved ones, giving the best care we possibly can, with our employees often bringing in things for the residents from their own homes, out of their own pockets, because the State of Illinois is not paying their bills.

We received a check from the State of Illinois in June, which paid for our services through the month of January. What are we supposed to tell our vendors who supply us with linen, food, electricity, etc., who do not want to wait six months for their money? We are fortunate here, as our administrator is very good about managing money, but it would be wonderful to be able to know that the funds from the State will be here in a timely fashion, so we could provide some of the extras that our elderly so richly deserve.

Please, if you have a loved one who uses health care services, if you use health care services, or if you have a loved one who works in a health care related field, help them out by calling, e-mailing, or writing to your area senator, representative, and write to the Governor's office at: Office of the Governor, 207 State House, Springfield, IL. 62706, and e-mail Governor Rod R. Blagojevich at , and let them know that the State of Illinois should be held accountable, just as we are, to pay their bills. I appreciate your time and concern.
