I am dismayed and more than a little surprised that Super Wal-Mart can move in to our community without any input from the community.
I have seen quite a few small towns that have been ruined by having a Super Wal-Mart move to town. They tend to overshadow all the other businesses that have worked so hard to serve us all. First to go would be Buy-Low, then just continue down the street and you can see the businesses drop. These businesses would become closed building,s creating an ugly blight on our community.
We have been served by all of these small business owners. IGA has special-ordered things that I like to use; Bertram's Pharmacy has always gone beyond the call; Ecton's Hardware - you can buy two screws and they will tell you how to make something work. I have had things delivered to my home by many businesses in town - just being neighborly. DJ's orders my favorite wine and keeps it in stock so I can buy a bottle whenever I want. Meiszner's started with a small landscaping business and look at what they have accomplished. We owe so much to these hard- working people that make our community work instead of bringing in a Super Wal-Mart to close them down.
My hope is that the residents and city officials will take a look at the vision of our county. How do we want it to look? Do we really want to do all our shopping in one store and have no competition in our community - no choice.
Please take a stand, we need to let our officials know how we feel before this is done without any input from us, the residents of this community.
