4/17/2018 10:40:00 AM Column an 'insult' to majority of Muslims
I was dismayed at Adrienne Greene's column about Islam on April 6 (church page). Contrary to what she states, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all worship the "God of Abraham and Isaac." While the faiths have differing understandings of God, it is simply a mistake to say that Muslims worship a different God than Jews and Christians.
She further states that "we don't often see evidence of peaceful Islam rejecting their ISIS brothers." In point of fact, it is quite common. One has only to Google "Muslims speak out against terrorists" to find many sources that disprove her point.
Greene says that Christianity "then moved quickly and permanently" on after the horrors of the Crusades. Apparently, she has forgotten modern events like the bombing of abortion clinics and murdering of doctors by those who claim to be Christian. It must have slipped her mind that Timothy McVeigh, whose bomb killed 168 people in Oklahoma City in 1995, considered himself enough of a Christian that the Last Rites were administered to him by a priest just before his execution. Has she forgotten Westboro Baptist Church, whose parishioners picket military funerals because they believe God hates gays and is therefore punishing America?
I could go on, but it is sufficient to say that this column by Greene is factually erroneous and an insult to the vast majority of Muslim people who are not terrorists and do not approve of it.
