12/24/2013 11:46:00 AM Tourism: Anything that brings business is good
I am writing in response to recent "Letter to the Editor" written by Phil Montgomery, in regard to the recent article about the Robinson City council granting tourism money to be used for Palestine's Rodeo and Labor Day festivities.
I'm curious if everyone understands exactly how our tourism fund is raised and its purpose. The money is collected from our local hotels as a tax whenever a patron stays at their establishment. The fund is meant to be used to increase tourism to our county and most importantly our hotels.
Since the Palestine rodeo is the largest activity in the county and generates plenty of guests during its duration, it warrants funding.
I'm not saying we shouldn't find more uses for it. Mr. Montgomery had several interesting suggestions. I'm just saying anything that drives business to our county, isn't a bad idea.
