Schools' problem lies in poor management
Editor:

It seems Illinois' school problem is lack of management by our state. Nearly all states do a much better job.

Support lacking for military personnel, retirees
Editor:

We at one time had good leadership, most of the time, in this country. Mr. Obama, it is known that you want world peace. There has been no peace in this world since Cain slew Abel. Ever since then, yes I am going to use the word, God let man decide his own destiny.

From 'protect and serve' to 'search and arrest?'
Editor:

I saw an interesting ad asking for my vote for sheriff in the March 7 paper.  It talked about all the things the person would do if elected.

Take time to learn how to stay safe this spring
Editor:

While the majority of Illinois tornadoes occur between April 1 and June 30, the tornado outbreaks on Nov. 17, 2013, and Feb. 20, 2014, proved that these violent stonns may happen any time of the year.

Priorities, not more money, will make schools better

Let's give children more, not less
I am writing in response to a letter to the editor from Phil Montgomery that appeared in the Daily News on Feb. 5. While I agree with Mr. Montgomery that "Priorities, not more money, will make schools better," I disagree with where he thinks these priorities should lie.

More lawyers = decline of civilization?
I noticed on the back page of your Jan. 30 paper a large ad about exposure to asbestos related to three local businesses.  It got me to thinking about America's lawyers again and I immediately got indigestion and had to take an Alka-Seltzer.

Unknown Samaritans are appreciated
This is a first for me, a letter to the editor.

Isn't America great - with all its faults its still the best place to be. Then Illinois is next best, but best of all is Crawford County.
