Clerk explains early voting with Drury challenge
Crawford County voters can vote early after all, but some might get a "do-over" depending on the outcome of a state candidacy challenge.

Early voting was delayed because of legal wrangling over a would-be Democrat candidate for attorney general. State Rep. Scott Drury's name is on the March 20 Democrat ballot here but could be removed depending on a judge's decision.

Hutsonville seeks new trustee as Bogard resigns
The Village of Hutsonville is looking for a new trustee, and will be looking into some street repair.

Village Trustee Jason Bogard submitted his resignation from the board Tuesday night. Bogard had moved out of the village a few months ago with plans to return in a short period of time. In his resignation to the board he stated he does believe he will be able to return as planned and does not believe he can continue to serve the community in the manor it deserves. He is also required to live in the village by ordinance.

Lady Panthers beat BSE for Regional title
History continues to be made by Oblong High School's girls' basketball program.

The Lady Panthers extended the best season in school history by winning just the second regional championship in program history, while adding another win to their school-record total Friday (Feb. 9), as they claimed the IHSA Class 1A Dieterich Regional with a 42-36 win over Brownstown-St. Elmo in the title game.

"The kids are ecstatic and the whole community is ecstatic," OHS head coach Tim Johnson said. "None of the kids wanted to lose and it showed in their efforts on the court."

Respect is golden; silence, not always
Ruritania is a fictional country, but it was the source of a parable about the law that caught on: "Silence equals acceptance." You hear it often when people speak about a bargain they have struck with a reluctant party who simply did not object. It must be all right, whatever it is, because there was no objection.
