Sheriff has college-scholarship applications
Prospective college students in the state of Illinois will have the opportunity to achieve financial aid thanks to an offer by a state law enforcement agency.

The Illinois Sheriff's Association announced earlier this week that it will be awarding over $50,000 in college scholarships throughout the state to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2019-20 academic year.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state.

Crawford County Sheriff William Rutan said that he will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500. There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national. There are however limitations.

Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents, scholarships must be utilized at higher learning institutes within the state and students must be enrolled full-time during the 2019-20 school year, excluding the summer session.

The applications are now available at the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, 203 S. Jefferson, Robinson, and on the ISA website at

"Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the sheriff's office by March 15, 2019," Rutan said.

For more information contact Rutan's office at 546-1515, the Illinois Sheriff's Association, high school advising center or college financial aid office.
