Facelift coming for LTC natatorium
The Lincoln Trail College pool may soon be a very different place thanks to a state grant.

LTC has been awarded a $400,000 grant to renovate the natatorium, college President Ryan Gower told the Daily News. It is hoped work can be done this summer, once the money arrives.

One of the biggest changes will be the construction of a climate-controlled party room on the east side of the pool. Gower pointed out the pool is often used for birthdays and other parties, but that the current patio area can get hot. The new room will have windows that will allow parents to keep watch of their children while they swim.

Another major change will be the construction of two family shower/restroom facilities. Many older couples use the pool, Gower explained. In some cases, one spouse may need the other's assistance. The two private rooms will allow this.

Pool offices will be moved closer to the entrance and a sauna and changing room will be constructed in their former location.

The old dive tank will also undergo renovation. Diving boards were removed years ago because of insurance liability. A water slide will be installed in their place. Floating logs and lilly pads will be added for older children to use and a climbing wall will be constructed.

The tank will continue to be used for lifeguard and scuba training.

Gower credited State Sen. Dale Righter with helping the college acquire the grant. Righer is not seeking re-election this year.

"He's been such a good friend to the college," Gower said. "We're going to miss him."
