Oblong Children's Christian Home has hired a new executive director for child care.
Jeff Robinson, who has a lengthy ministry history in Illinois, began his job Monday. He and his wife, Tina, recently moved into the residence provided for them on the Oblong campus from their home in Indianapolis.
The position, which was vacated by the former director in July 2019, was being filled by former administrator and retiree Arvin Moden. Moden had a 20-year tenure with the Home before his retirement in October 2018.
Robinson has served as a pastor in churches in Georgia, Massachusetts, and Illinois, including a 19-year tenure at Lincolnway Christian Church in New Lenox. Following these experiences, Robinson and his wife served as houseparents at the Milton Hershey school, a private, philanthropic boarding school in Hershey, Pa. The combination of these working experiences and Robinson's degrees in Bible from from Kentucky Christian University; Theology/Philosophy form Lincoln Christian Seminary; and Spiritual Formation in a Post-Modern World from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, "provide a solid foundation for a great start with the 50-year old children's ministry based in Oblong," according to a spokesman from the children's home.
"Tina and I are excited to be here at the Oblong Children's Christian Home, Robinson said. "The longevity of the ministry and the successes that the home has had over that time encourage us. We are looking forward to helping children and families in crisis and working alongside the houseparents and staff at Oblong and at the satellite facility in Fairfield,
"The Crawford County community is a welcoming community, and we are pleased to settle into a warm, inviting place at just this time in our ministry career," he added.
The Robinsons have four grown children and personal ties to some residents in the Robinson area. He is an avid woodworker, and Tina has served alongside Jeff in ministry throughout their married history. They were officially hired by the Board of Directors in October 2019 and have been making the transition to the new residence on campus over the course of November.
