Alleged lewd messages and photos sent to underage girls led to a Robinson man's arrest by the Robinson Police Department Friday.
According to the Robinson Police Department report, Thomas J. Attaway, 21, Robinson, was arrested about 6:02 p.m. on charges of child pornography and unlawful grooming, following an investigation.
Sgt. Dan Strauch told the Daily News the investigation began sometime last week when a parent found nude photos of Attaway on her child's social media account.
The parent reportedly found the photos while monitoring the child's social media through email, which was linked to the account. The information was then reported to the police department.
Soon afterward, another child's social media was found with photos and lewd dialogue from Attaway.
Strauch said both sites showed that Attaway was exchanging not only photos, but sexual comments and suggestions as well.
Grooming is the offense of knowingly using an electronic or computer service or device to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to commit an unlawful sexual act or touching, as defined in Section 2 of the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Other examples of grooming in Illinois include posting an ad on an online bulletin board or Craigslist seeking sexual contact with a minor, or an online message to a child's parent or guardian to encourage them to allow them to meet their child.
The two victims in this case are said to be girls younger than 10 years old.
Attaway was taken into custody at a residence in the 700 block of South Cross, and is being held in Crawford County Jail, where his bond is set at $7,525.
Strauch said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the crime and more charges could be added to Attaway's list of felonies.
